David Fleet's textile designs have graced runways and royal wardrobes alike. With over three decades in the fashion industry, Fleet has left his mark on collections from New York to London. His journey began with an art foundation course, where he discovered his passion for textiles – a medium that allowed him to blend graphic styles, painterly techniques, and intricate motifs.
Fleet's career has been shaped by influential figures like Professor Louise Wilson OBE, director of the MA Fashion course at Central Saint Martins. After studying under Wilson, Fleet was invited to teach on the course, a role he continues alongside his design practice. "Teaching is a privilege," Fleet says, finding joy in conversations about creativity and problem-solving. His one-on-one approach fosters each student's unique talent.
From seeing his work on Alexander McQueen's early catwalks to designing fabric for Camilla Parker Bowles' royal wedding dress, Fleet's career is studded with defining moments. He's worked with Stella McCartney on Team GB's Olympic kits for London 2012 and Rio 2016, representing the UK on a global stage. Fleet's collaborations with designers like McQueen and Phoebe Philo have left a lasting impression. "McQueen for his freedom of thinking, bravery and attitude. Phoebe for her specification, rigor and modernity," Fleet reflects.
