For Rebekka, denim isn’t just material but a medium she’s spent her career perfecting. The Danish-Asian designer, now based in the Netherlands, dreamed of becoming a designer since she was a child. But under family pressure, she first enrolled in business school, only to realize her real direction lay elsewhere. That decision led her to fashion school, and soon after, an unexpected encounter at Amsterdam Airport changed everything. G-Star’s legendary denim director, Pierre Morisette, stopped her to ask about the jeans she was wearing. When he learned they were her own design, he offered her a job on the spot.
Rebekka went on to spend more than ten years at G-Star as the Head of Womenswear Design, refining her signature approach which is being modern, sharp, and deeply attuned to shape and proportion. Her expertise earned her the 2020 Denim Designer of the Year award and a place on Rivet’s Influential 50 list. Publications like ELLE and Friends of Friends have highlighted her precise and forward sensibility: a mix of technical mastery and design clarity that defines contemporary denim.
Her most well-known collaboration, the G-Star × Pharrell Williams “RAW for the Oceans” collection, transformed recycled ocean plastics into wearable pieces, a project that fused sustainability with design intelligence. Rebekka’s work reflects the confidence of modern independence: grounded in craft, guided by intuition, and always in conversation with the world she designs for.
