About
Maison Margiela's chief designer, ex-Burberry and Lanvin lead. Brand in 90 global retailers. Central St. Martins grad.
Born in South Africa, Hamish Morrow honed his craft at London's Central Saint Martins for womenswear and the Royal College of Art for menswear. After gaining valuable experience in Milan and New York, Hamish Morrow launched his namesake brand in 2000, quickly becoming a fixture at London Fashion Week. His passion for innovative materials and tech-infused designs, like "space denim" using recycled sportswear fabrics and nanotechnology, caught the industry's attention, leading to consultancy roles with Fendi, Krizia, and Louis Feraud.
Hamish Morrow's career took interesting turns. After his brand reached 90 global retailers, he closed it in 2008 to focus on art, earning a master's from Goldsmiths University in 2016. This academic detour sharpened his design skills. In 2015, he joined Lanvin as chief ready-to-wear designer under Alber Elbaz, revitalizing the historic French house. At Burberry from 2018, he created bespoke gowns for A-listers like Juliette Binoche, Jessica Chastain, Renée Zellweger, and Irina Shayk. Since 2019, Hamish has been leading design at Maison Margiela, collaborating closely with John Galliano on avant-garde collections like Avant-Premiere and ICONS.
In his recent collaboration with Fabrique, Hamish Morrow explores contrasts and juxtapositions. The collection blends Western three-dimensional and Eastern geometric clothing traditions, plays with scale and proportion, and mixes sportswear with tailored pieces. It's a thoughtful balance of traditional and modern elements, all in a minimalist color palette that lets the design concepts shine. Morrow's ability to merge seemingly opposing ideas into cohesive, wearable art is impressive. This collection feels like a natural evolution of his design philosophy, embodying the avant-garde, deconstructed spirit in every cut and stitch.
