Alberto Caneglias grew up in Milan, but his work has never followed the city’s usual expectations. After more than ten years at DSquared2—as a senior designer responsible for multiple ready-to-wear lines—he developed a design approach shaped by graphic thinking and a willingness to push beyond familiar knitwear formulas. That long stretch in a high-pressure, detail-heavy environment sharpened both his technique and his instinct for ideas that sit slightly outside the mainstream.
Alberto pulls from sources that rarely appear in knit design: street graffiti, comic graphics, and totem motifs. When he works with yarn, it behaves almost like a marker lines stacking, breaking, and shifting in ways that create immediacy rather than softness. This gives his knitwear a more expressive, emotionally charged character with a hint of carefree, hippie-spirited energy. It’s also why many new-generation performers gravitate toward his work; the pieces feel like they’re saying something, not just following a category.
That same attitude extends into Alberto’s other responsibilities, including swimwear and party dresses, where he applies the same graphic, rule-resistant logic. His latest work with Fabrique continues that thread, widening his visual language across a fuller wardrobe.
