Nanushka’s design language has been shaped since 2019 by Ahinaa Perjesi, its design director. A Hungarian native, she earned her master’s degree at Copenhagen’s Design & Technology Institute, then worked briefly at MT.Larkin before returning to Budapest in 2015 to join Nanushka. Her rise within the house reflects both her training abroad and her decision to root her career in Hungary.
Nanushka, founded in 2005 by Sandra Sandor, set out to innovate through craft while making aesthetics functional and redefining luxury in sustainable terms. Under the joint leadership of Sandor, Peter Baldaszti, and Perjesi, the label has become a consistent presence on the Paris Fashion Week schedule, praised by Vogue, ELLE, and Harper’s Bazaar. The team’s work has placed Central European design firmly on the global stage; their vegan-leather puffer jacket in particular marked a turning point, sparking a worldwide trend.
Perjesi describes her “creative DNA” as shaped by a multicultural upbringing and a nomadic way of life, as she told Fabrique. She resists simple nostalgia, focusing instead on local grounding—using modern tailoring to reintroduce Hungarian traditions in lighter, more adaptable forms. The result brings back a freer, wilder, and romantic Bohemian spirit without the weight of history, a perspective that continues to open new ground for Nanushka.
