Inspiration

A dream half-remembered: flowers pressed into striped pages, whispers of wallpaper dissolving in retro rooms. Stripes ripple like echoes of sun through shutters, sliding between blossoms and shadows. Florals drift, lines blur, patterns fold into one another - an in-between world where memory becomes knit and knit becomes memory.

Dragana Solaja is the current print and embroidery designer at FENDI, based in Milan. For the house's Spring/Summer 2026 collection, she embedded intricate beaded embroidery into the interior compartments of handbags — a technique that turns a typically hidden element into a display of high-level Italian craft.

Before FENDI, Solaja spent several years as senior designer at LA DOUBLE J, the Italian label built on maximalist prints and resort-driven style. She also held roles at ICEBERG, where she worked on leather goods and print design, and at VERSUS VERSACE. What connects these positions is her focus on translating references and inspiration into tangible design — print, embroidery, surface detail — with a narrative quality that gives each piece context. Her approach treats design as something close to conceptual art made wearable; she's said that real newness in design comes not just from craft itself, but from how a designer processes and responds to the world around them.
