When you think of fresh, innovative American fashion, Matthew Adams Dolan is the name. Born in Danvers, Massachusetts, and raised in Japan and Australia, his early exposure to sewing through his mother sparked a lifelong passion for fashion. After earning a bachelor's degree in fashion and textile design from Sydney University of Technology, he honed his skills at the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York, earning an MFA in fashion design and society.
Dolan’s work is known for its bold reimagining of classic American denim. Inspired by notions of familiarity, universality, and versatility, he draws upon the traditions of American sportswear with a specific emphasis on denim. His designs reflect denim's historical significance, from mid-century workwear to its ubiquity in 1990s pop culture. His distinctive style quickly caught the eye of Rihanna, leading to his role as the lead design consultant for Fenty in 2016, a position he continued after Rihanna's collaboration with LVMH in 2018. His designs have graced New York Fashion Week and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Dolan has been a finalist in both the LVMH Prize and CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, and a nominee for the International Woolmark Prize, further cementing his influence in the fashion world.
In his collaboration with Fabrique, Dolan draws inspiration from traditional American craftsmanship and 80s retro plaid. Emphasizing denim's historical significance, he reinterprets American sportswear with a contemporary twist. This collection blends practicality with innovative silhouettes, ensuring his pieces are as functional as they are stylish.
