Inspired by vintage one-of-a-kind pieces, the collection highlights bold graphics, vivid color, and a mix of knit techniques that strike a balance between nostalgia and present-day ease. “I hope this series brings practical ease, playful fun, nostalgic gentleness, and a sense of the present,” she says. Background
New York–based knitwear designer and former Rachel Comey talent, she founded Unir and brings an organic design philosophy to refined, expressive knitwear.
For Lara Lu, knitwear has always been both craft and playground. The New York–based Chinese-American designer first built her reputation at Rachel Comey before launching her own label, Unir, which gained recognition for its refined handwork, organic design approach, and presence in international boutiques.
Her early work carried a quieter, more poetic tone, but her practice has since opened into something broader and more playful. That shift can be seen in the way she uses bold motifs, vivid color, and unexpected graphic elements, treating knitwear as a space for both technique and personality. In her hands, it holds humor as easily as precision.
Inspired by vintage one-of-a-kind pieces, her collaboration with Fabrique continues that direction through bold graphics, vivid color, and a mix of knit techniques that balance nostalgia with present-day ease. “I hope this series brings practical ease, playful fun, nostalgic gentleness, and a sense of the present,” she says. The result feels energetic, inventive, and full of life.
