Edward Crutchley’s designs might be rooted in tradition, but they are anything but conventional. Growing up in Yorkshire, a region known for its rolling valleys, ancient churches, and wild moorlands, Crutchley was surrounded by the cultural richness of Northern England. This heritage, coupled with the region's deep ties to the British wool industry, has profoundly influenced his work, leading him to explore and reinterpret what it means to be a "Northerner" in the modern fashion world.

Crutchley’s journey in fashion has been nothing short of remarkable. A Central Saint Martins graduate, he spent a decade at Louis Vuitton, where he collaborated closely with Kim Jones, sourcing the finest materials and craftsmanship from around the globe to create trendsetting pieces. His talent didn’t go unnoticed; since 2018, he has been working with Dior, and since 2022 with Fendi, further establishing his reputation for blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary innovation. In 2019, Crutchley’s expertise was recognized on a global scale when he became the first designer in decades to win both the menswear and innovation categories of the prestigious Woolmark Prize.

Crutchley’s meticulous approach to design is evident in his 21AW collection, where he selected cashmere yarns from Johnstons of Elgin, a historic Scottish brand. These yarns, washed in the River Teviot to maintain their natural pH and mineral elements, result in knitwear that is both soft and naturally luxurious. His recent collaboration with Fabrique is inspired by his grandmother, Lorna, known for her high energy and impeccable style. A checkered bow blouse in the collection is named after her, reflecting a new feminine strength that is as powerful as it is sensual. “To be honest, I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t be fascinated by textiles!” Crutchley muses. “They’re how we make the world interesting, express comfort and uniqueness. They preserve culture and history, wrapping around us, protecting us, and uplifting us.”
