Background
Former Acne Studios knitwear designer behind key runway looks, shaping womenswear RTW and the iconic emoticon line. Handloom and crochet textures with couture edge—knitwear, redefined.
Margot Matheron is a Paris-based knit designer who proved early—back in her student years—that knit can be treated as an art form, not an accessory. After graduating, she joined Acne Studios in Sweden and spent five years working across high-end women’s ready-to-wear, high-end menswear, and the brand’s recognizable emoticon line.
Her calling card is texture you can read at a distance. She’s drawn to what happens when yarns with different weights and finishes are interlaced—how the surface shifts, catches light, and changes the way a piece holds its shape. The experimental panels come from traditional hand-cranked looms or fully hand-crocheted work, which is slow by nature and hard to fake.
That insistence on handmaking matters because it challenges a stubborn idea: knitwear has to live in casual territory. Matheron’s approach leans closer to couture logic—craft as structure, not comfort—and it’s the kind of thinking that could push the next knit cycle toward sharper silhouettes and more deliberate texture.
